WASTLAND REBIRTH
Project location: Xiamen City, China
Personal project
Project Introduction
With the development of industrial civilization and the exploitation of large quantities of mineral resources, more and more mines have appeared around the world. People rarely come to these harsh environments. They are forgotten by cities and become blind spots in the city.
Mine rehabilitation helps to restore ecosystems damaged by mining activities, including vegetation and wildlife habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement. In addition, some mining areas record the history of a region's mining civilization and have cultural or historical significance to local communities. Restored mine sites can serve as outdoor classrooms, providing places and opportunities for people to learn about ecology, sustainability and environmental science.
The Wuhu Mountain Mine Pit is located on the boundary of the Wuhu Mountain Scenic Area and ceased production in June 2020. The pit currently has a significant impact on the landscape and ecology of the scenic area. This project aims to restore and transform the post-mining landscape by reusing and transforming the abandoned mining site into a public space that provides a variety of ecological, social, economic and educational benefits.
